Zusters in geschil (2026)
Full HD video, sound, 4:41, loop.

Zusters in geschil’ (“Sisters in dispute” with zusters referring here to nuns in a religious community, and geschil meaning both “dispute” and, in the context of food, “peel”). This film presents three scenes in which two women, as central figures, peel potatoes and sit together for a midday meal in silence. The tension between the title and the imagery introduces a subtle form of humor.

Filmed in ‘Grootseminarie Brugge’ (the Major Seminary in Bruges), the work resonates with the historical and contemplative context of this location. The scenes reflect on food, its preparation, and daily routine. Within the context of monastic life, it also refers to the sobriety of the meal, regardless of the personal preferences of the community members. By focusing on everyday actions and withholding clear narrative cues, ‘Zusters in geschil’ leaves room for interpretation and invites the viewer to assign meaning to what remains unspoken.

This film was made for Erfgoeddag 2026 (Heritage Day), themed ‘HA HA Humor’, in collaboration with Erfgoedcel Brugge and Dwaalzin.
